Getting from Porec to Split

If you are planning to visit both Porec and Split during your holiday in Croatia, you might find this guide to travelling from Porec to Split useful. The guide of course also applies if you travel in the opposite direction.

By car: the distance between Porec and Split is 452 km if you take the fastest route which is, of course, the highway although the whole route only partially includes the highway. Time wise, the trip on this route takes approximately 5 hours. Toll applies on this route but only on the highway. If you are not in a hurry and want to avoid paying the toll, you can take the coastal road and enjoy the beauties of the Croatian coastline. This will of course take more time, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes longer, but in the season it can be even more due to the traffic jams on the coastal road. The distance on this route is 478 km.

By bus: there is no direct bus line connecting Porec and Split. You can take a bus from Porec to Opatija or Rijeka and from there continue to Split by another bus. There is only one daily departure between Porec and Opatija but between Porec and Rijeka there are very frequent bus lines on a daily basis. The trip from Porec to Rijeka takes about 1 hour and 30-45 minutes. From Rijeka to Split there are also frequent bus lines; the trip takes more or less 8 hours because buses frequently stop in coastal towns. There are however a few fast buses driving 6 hours and 20 minutes So, the trip by bus from Porec to Split takes 8 to 9.30 hours, depending on the bus you take.

It is not possible to travel from Porec to Split by any other means of transport.

In case you are travelling with a car, on the way from Porec to Split you could visit many interesting spots, some of them are:

  • Crikvenica, Novi Vinodolski, Senj and many other interesting coastal towns in the Kvarner region
  • National Park Plitvice Lakes - a World nature heritage site by UNESCO
  • National Park Krka - called also the "Little Plitvice"
  • Primosten, Trogir - picturesque coastal towns in Dalmatia
